Broadcasting Your Business is Black-Owned

I came across an interesting article recently via Bbnomics Crowdfunding. The article discusses some Black entrepreneurs who have consciously decided not to broadcast that their businesses are Black-owned in hopes of bringing in more clientele. I can see both sides of the argument. On the one hand if you let it be known that you are Black-owned, then you will (hopefully) get the support of the Black community, as there are already so few Black-Owned businesses. On the other hand, if you don’t make it known you might appeal to more people and bring in non-Black customers who ordinarily wouldn’t do business with a company they know is Black-Owned.

Read the full article here and check out the rest of the Bbnomics site as well. It’s a crowdfunding platform with a focus on Black initiatives. Think GoFundMe but specifically for Black causes.

So what do you think? Should Black-Owned businesses announce they are Black-Owned or should they not mention it to have have a broader appeal?
